Council Delegate Report:

Rally Day

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 25, 2019
Texas State Capitol, Austin

A critical difference between PTA and other parent groups is our dedication to advocacy. Public education is our one guarantee for a brighter and better Texas.

Each legislative session we hear about the need to improve public education, and history shows that following the conclusion of every legislative session, we all express our dissatisfaction with the results, wishing we had done more. By attending Rally Day, we are taking action — letting our PTA voices be heard while decisions are still being made.

Attending Rally Day is an investment of your time and resources that Texas students cannot afford for us to overlook.

From our Legislative Chair, Alexandra Hoh:

"Rally Day in Austin was a huge success. 2K+ turned up. Council PTA and Texas PTA were awesome. Funding schools was promised as a top priority across both House and Senate, per private meeting and legislative speakers session that we were in. Sustainability in long term funding, surplus funds, district autonomy to allocate funds according to own needs, etc... were discussed. There's enthusiasm this time that school funding will happen, unlike past sessions, according to the legislator we met with. Recapture, property tax, mental health under school safety are facets of and relative to school funding. The lawmakers seem to be supportive and in agreement with PTA legislative priorities."
